Benches along the beach front provide an ideal place to rest while taking in the stunning views of the sea. There are also a number of children’s playgrounds running the length of the promenade as well as a chlorinated, sea-water swimming pool complex open to the public at the Sea Point Pavilion. The view from the pools is spectacular, out over the Atlantic Ocean.
The swimming pool complex at the Pavilion has two children’s pools, a diving pool, and an Olympic-sized pool.
While the beaches are not ideal for swimming they provide nice spots for relaxing on the white sand in the sun.
Along the Beach Road, a low brick building houses the Sea Fisheries Research Aquarium. Interesting studies on the effects of simulated oceanic conditions on marine resources are carried out here, the only facility of its kind in the country.
Whether the visitor uses the narrow “Main Road” through the busy shopping areas, or the “Beach Road” which meanders along the every-changing coastline, easy parking makes it enticing to stop and enjoy Sea Point.
Today Sea Point enjoys a bustling 24-hour cosmopolitan vibe that has drawn a number of city execs to settle in its beachfront high-rises. Sea Point is divided by Main Road, with its many shops, takeaways, restaurants, clubs and coffee bars. Just about everything you need is found in this part of the city and it hums with activity.
Up the slopes of Signal Hill, away from the Atlantic Ocean, lie large, private villas that fetch into the tens of millions for their views and proximity to the centre of Cape Town. Green Point & De Waterkant
Green Point lies between the V&A Waterfront and Signal Hill on the Main Road en route to Sea Point. Green Point is a suburb of Cape Town, located to the north west of the central business district. De Waterkant is a trendy area that has maintained the colorful, bright semi-detached houses - restoring them into fashionable cottages that, together with the cobbled, tree-lined streets and spectacular views bring to mind New York’s Greenwich Village and London’s Soho. It a popular residential area for young professionals and for the Cape Town gay and lesbian community. Green Point has fast become one of the trendiest residential areas in Cape Town, particularly since the development of the Cape Quarter - a shopping centre that regards itself as an experience and the essence of ‘Cape Town cool’ - found in the heart of Green Point.
The new Green Point Stadium has been constructed on Green Point Common for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Numerous infrastructural developments have taken place including the upgrade of Western Boulevard and the new Granger Bay Boulevard, along with a massive investment in creating an urban park around the stadium.
Green Point exudes a village feel with narrow villa-lined streets, sidewalk cafes and stylish shops. Many of the homes are Victorian-style restorations with balconies and trellises as well as lovingly reconditioned original features of this period.
Green Point is a vibrant and lively part of Cape Town both night and day, particularly after dark when local pubs, clubs and cabaret restaurants serve as a popular hangout for locals and visitors. Green Point is close to the city centre, including Long Street, Company Gardens and a number of museums and galleries. It is also a perfect location from which to access the Cape Town beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay.

Camps Bay
Camps Bay is famous for its white sandy beaches, palm-tree lined promenade and trendy restaurants and bars. This spectacularly scenic area is overlooked by Lions Head, Table Mountain and flanked by the majestic Twelve Apostles Mountain range.

No wonder it is one of the Capes most highly sought after tourist destinations and a top area to live in.

Clifton
Clifton beach has something of a reputation with the trendy set in Cape Town and is a haven for international jetsetters. Together with its immaculate white sands and glistening water, their bronzing bodies and designer sunglasses grace Clifton’s 4th beach with sufficient glamour and eco-savvy to deserve not only the ‘see and be seen’ status it has acquired but its blue flag status as well.
The upmarket suburb of Clifton lies just beyond Bantry Bay, between Sea Point and Camps Bay, in one of the most superb settings against the backdrop of Table Mountain. The beaches are divided into four distinct coves by stretches of granite boulders and, whilst they may not be very imaginatively named, 1st, 2nd 3rd and 4th, their beauty makes names rather superfluous.
Each of the beaches is reached by a flight of stairs down from the road on which parking can sometimes be extremely difficult. This doesn’t hinder the crowds during peak season or in the evening when throngs of people head down to Clifton to partake in traditional sundowners in the presence of one of Cape Town’s legendary sunsets.
The four beaches of Clifton are well protected from the notorious south-easterly and, whilst there is the occasional wave, most simply lap at the shoreline. Staying here often has the added bonus of quiet evenings as the throngs tend to head off just up the road to Camps Bay’s many restaurants, clubs and bars as Clifton offers little in the way of restaurants and has no shops to speak of.

Mouille Point
Mouille Point, lying just north of Sea Point, is a well-heeled suburb with a number of gorgeous apartment blocks and short-term accommodation for tourists.
Much like Sea Point, Mouille Point has a promenade that runs along the coast, which is popular with walkers and joggers, and a stroll along the scenic walkways makes for a relaxing family activity
The village of Mouille Point, which lies between Granger Bay and Three Anchor Bay just outside the centre of Cape Town, is a bit of a conundrum in the sense that this now upmarket suburb - mainly a host of apartments overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, Robben Island and Lion’s Head - is most famous for its lighthouse, which is actually the Green Point Lighthouse.
The Mouille Point lighthouse which is the oldest active lighthouse in South Africa having operated since 1824. The oldest operational lighthouse in the country is often used as a landmark by locals when giving directions around this part of the mother city. Its white and red stripes stand as an obvious milestone on Beach Road in a suburb that was originally developed in the 1940s as an answer to Rio de Janeiro’s big city developments. It didn’t have quite the desired effect and the residents of Mouille Point settled for living in a less-fashionable part of Cape Town, until the boom of recent years. The now eclectic mix of deli, hair salons, spa and boutiques gives Mouille Point a flavour all of its own and the added attractions of the golf course, the sea side promenade and the sports and sailing clubs based on the nearby Common have made Mouille Point quite a sought after address in the modern Cape Town.
Mouille Point is only minutes away from the V&A Waterfront and the centre of Cape Town with its vibrant Long Street, trendy Kloof Street and the many museums, galleries and nooks and crannies.

Fresnaye
Fresnaye exists in a windless corner of the Cape, surrounded by the Cape Peninsula National Park and below the noon gun at Signal Hill. The sweeping views of Fresnaye enable residents to step out of their room and into paradise. Most Fresnaye homes, guesthouses and hotels offer balconies to make use of the views of the Atlantic Seaboard, Table Bay, and Robben Island.
Business people with an eye for beauty, romantic couples looking for a private and secluded spot, and locals who can afford the tranquillity and opulence of the suburb all frequent Fresnaye. Although the area itself does not hold much in the way of nightlife, a minute’s walk down the steep roads will bring you to the main drag of Sea Point which is absolutely teeming with nightlife.
Fresnaye is a sheltered spot of Cape Town, making it the ideal year-round Cape Town suburb. In summer, the sun sits high in the sky until at least eight in the evening, while winter makes the days short and dark but cosy. Summer lasts from November until April, while winter is at its peak in July. Temperatures here do not regularly drop below 5 degrees Celsius, but in summer the mercury can peak as high as 38.
Fresnaye sits on the edge of Sea Point, overlooking the V&A Waterfront, showing the route to and from the popular mall and working harbour.
The impossibly blue Atlantic Ocean offers much in the way of entertainment –spot whales from your Fresnaye balcony, take a wind-surfing lesson around the corner at Camps Bay or further along at Bloubergstrand, build a sand castle and laugh at the penguins at Boulder’s Beach, or simply relax in the sun on one of the Cape Peninsula’s many pristine beaches.
